Once in a while, i would stop and think to myself, what have i done for the whole of last week? or what have i done last month? last year? hm, a lot of times i don't remember what i did. it's kind of scary.
didn't we live to create memories? In 'My Date With Vampire III', 完颜不破 told 箭头 that if he doesn't remember bits of his past, probably those memories are not worth remembering.
for the times when i don't keep a diary, i can only refer to my old organisers for clues of my life. if i have been lazy, i would probably not remember a large part of my past.
Anyway, I've been reading a lot about e-learning because of a proj i'm doing now. I don't like e-learning personally but that's the trend for the future. I miss how lessons used to be like in primary school especially maths lessons and my pri 4 and pri 6 maths teachers.
My primary 4 maths teacher, i feel, is a very sophisticated lady. She was also my english and science teacher. i always remember her as a teacher with very good dress sense, wears nice black heels, tall and has very well blown hair everyday. She likes to say "ought to be shot" especially during English classes. i liked her maths classes. I can't really remember clearly but i think she used to give the class maths cards to bring home. the maths cards are beyond our textbook maths sums. Everyone will rotate the maths cards and attempt the 3 or 4 sums on the cards. i remembered that there were times when i was so enthusiastic that i took home two cards! i liked to do maths sum when i watched chinese mtv programme after school. I felt very happy when i get all my sums correct. When i got more sums correct, I was motivated to do more so that i would get more correct sums in my exercise book.
My primary 6 maths teacher is a scary person. i'm still scared of her when i think of how fierce she was. She was a discipline mistress in my school. She was also my form teacher, english teacher and science teacher. There was once she asked me a question at her table. i thought i would just answer softly. when she couldn't hear me, instinctively, i bended forward to speak to her. She jumped and scolded me right in front of the whole class. I still remember that she said, if one day you go out to work, and your boss asks you a question, would you bend forward to speak to him? Her body language when she scolded me was humiliating. I think she meant that i should never get too close to a superior. Well, i was very hurt by her but it really taught me what power distance is all about. then on, i never dare to get close to teachers. That matter aside, i really like her maths classes. i remembered it was challenging to do her maths sums, just like how challenging those maths cards questions were to me.
Because of these two teachers, i like maths =p
And now, i'm graduating. i'm going to be an auditor. and now i'm also a maths tutor.
I hope one day i can let my maths teachers know how they have cultivated my interest in the subject. but i guess when the chance comes, i'll be too shy to speak. it's always the case for me。
good teachers are hard to come by. inspiring teachers even harder. e-learning, be it learning through games, video, blogging whatever the media is, it can never replace teachers. For example, game-based e-learning is created because the generation x,y,z like to play games and they don't like to read. This is a lousy trend isn't it? Game learning is created to suit the the learners while teachers decide what is best for for their students and they infect us with their passion for the subject.
Why do learners have so much power to decide the learning mode? Probably its the invisible hand? demand and supply? Maybe we need an educator hero to save the day. maybe students need more light bulbs above their heads.
i'm so stubborn. i just don't like e-learning.
p.s. i'm not a drinker leh. but i really feel like trying tiger's 0 degree celsius ice cold beer. JQ said tiger's exported beer taste better. someone bring a can back to S'pore? =p
