I'm back!

I haven't been blogging much because i went on a 5D Yunan 2D bangkok trip. It was my first time going far away from home for so many days. hehee

I don't really know how to describe my trip to China. Hmm... i guess i didn't quite enjoy myself there because i didn't check things up before i sign up for the tour. Yunan is quite a "backward" place and it seems that the only thing the tour guide can boast about is Yunan's GMS meeting (which i find totally meaningless.) Besides that, Yunan has poor traffic management. The width of a single-direction road in Singapore is as wide as their double-direction road. not only do motor vehicles travel on those roads, horses, bulls and goats also move along the same roads. There were many times when my driver dangerously overtake those slow moving road users by cutting into opposite lanes at sharp turning points. Sometimes i felt like i'll die from some traffic accidents 'cos the driver often brake the vehicle such that i might fly from the third row seat to the headlights of the car. worst still, there were little kids who would suddenly ran across roads to intercept tourists cars to feign traffic accident so as to cheat some money.

I never seen those things in Singapore. I never expected to see such things in Yunan. hahaha... erh.. i just thought it would be a very cultured place with honest people earning honest living. Then, to my greater surprise, my tour guide who is a 21 year-old girl varsity student cum part-time tour guide asked my family for $100 of tips for her service in the 5 days. initially, my mum thought that she asked for RMB but the girl told her that she was asking for Singapore Dollar. On top of the $100 tips for herself, we had to pay $100 of tips to the driver as well.

oh well, even a varsity 21-year-old seemingly honest and sincere girl attempted to cheat money from us. i just felt so disappointed with the people i see during the trip.

of course, i must have some empathy/sympathy for the chinese people there because life is very hard for them. they are poor folks who don't live and eat as well as the middle income Singaporeans, so probably i should excuse them for attempting such tricks. as for the traffic, there is indeed some order among the chaos. at least, i wasn't exactly involved in a traffic accident. furthermore, the nice scenary and the opportunity of immersing myself in the chinese culture should more than enough make up for the lousy aspects of the trip. Below is a picture of me at 西山龙门。it is said that people who visited that place would become very "valuable" because of a saying that goes “一登龙门,身价百倍”。

As for the 2D bangkok trip, it was more enjoyable except that my family found out that we didn't carry enough cash with us. We have no credit card either. hahaa it was so shocking to find out that we have to pay 2000baht for hotel deposit, 2000baht for airport tax, 300baht for half day tour and a lot of other tips here and there when we carry only about 9000baht. hahaa

thankfully my boyfriend told me that UOB cardholders can draw cash from bangkok's ATM machines, else my family would have to starve in the hotel. hehehe over at bangkok, i stayed at the First Hotel which is located in the Pratuunam area. I quite like that place 'cos it has a lot of shopping places, wholesale malls etc where i can get good bargains. the highlight of my bangkok trip is the cabaret show put up by lady-boys or rather transexuals who dressed scantily and danced to japanese, cantonese, thai, chinese, etc songs. The transexuals behave like girls in japanese animes. =O) One of them even look like christy chung!

I think there is no place better than home. Singapore is the best of place for me. =o) In Singapore, i can safely move around on my own even at night. i won't have to worry about robbers, rapists, pickpockets, kidnappers...etc. i don't think i ever want to leave Singapore for too long a time anymore. But of course, i still want to go on my exchange. but this time, i decided that Hong Kong is a much better place than China.
